Withdrawing From Syria Very Soon, Let Other People Handle It: US President Trump

US President Donald Trump, who is known for his strict focus on 'Make America Great Again', on Thursday announced that the US would "be coming out of Syria like very soon", coincidently hours after the Pentagon claimed US troops needed to stay in Syria for the immediate future.

"We're knocking the hell out of ISIS. We'll be coming out of Syria like very soon. Let the other people take care of it now," Trump said at an event in Ohio.

"We are going to have 100% of the caliphate, as they call it, sometimes referred to as land ... But we are going to be coming out of there real soon. We are going to get back to our country, where we belong, where we want to be," Trump added.

The statements made by Trump do not match with the current assessment made by the US military, a US Defence official was quoted as saying. The official pointed out several challenges in withdrawing from Syria, including what would need to be done with the 400 foreign ISIS fighters that are currently being held by the US-back Syrian Democratic Forces.

Earlier on Thursday, Chief Pentagon spokesperson Dana White said to media that "important work remains to guarantee the lasting defeat of these violent extremists" in Syria.

"Our commitment to win must outlast the so-called physical caliphate, and the warped ideas that guide the calculated cruelty of ISIS," White said.

"We must not relent on ISIS or permit these terrorists to recover from their battlefield loses," she added, saying that ISIS still poses a threat.

While US military commanders are not recommending the withdrawal of US troops from Syria, the statements made by Trump indicate that a US withdrawal from Syria may come sooner than later.
