Former US first lady Barbara Bush, the only woman to witness both her husband and son become US President, died on Tuesday at the age of 92 due to failing health. Barbara's husband George H W Bush was the 41st President of the US and their son George W Bush was the 43rd US President.

The Bush family on Sunday in a statement had said that she was in 'failing health' but decided not to pursue further medical treatment and rather focus on 'comfort care'. Reportedly, Barbara had been battling congestive heart problems and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in recent years.

“Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love and literacy to millions,” George W. Bush said in a statement.

“To us, she was so much more. Mom kept us on our toes and kept us laughing until the end,” he said.

In memory of Barbara Bush, current US President Donald Trump has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff at the White House and on all public grounds. President Trump in a tweet, condoled the death of Barbara Bush, and said, "Melania and I join the Nation in celebrating the life of Barbara Bush".

In an official statement, President Trump hailed Barbara Bush as an advocate of the American family and said, "she would be long remembered for her strong devotion to country and family, both of which she served unfailingly well."

Barbara and George HW were married on January 6, 1945, and had the longest marriage of any presidential couple in American history. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, their 5 children and their respective spouses, 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
