US President Donald Trump, since taking office a year ago, has made abundantly clear his disdain for the traditional media, going out of his way to use Twitter as a medium for communication with the public, as opposed to calling press conferences.

While President Trump in the past has singled out several media organisations for "Fake News", in keeping with the awards season, he announced his own "Fake News Awards" to award the “most dishonest and corrupt” media organisations. Initially, the Fake News Awards were to be announced on Monday, however, in a recent tweet, Trump announced that due to increased “interest” the "losers" will now be announced on January 17 instead.

In a tweet, US President Trump said, “The Fake News Awards, those going to the most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media, will be presented to the losers on Wednesday, January 17th, rather than this coming Monday. The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!”

Trump, in an earlier tweet had earlier given hints on the possible award categories.

“Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!” he tweeted.

The 'Fake News Awards' were met with mixed reactions from the public, while some felt that it was a fun take on media, others felt that the President of the United States should keep his focus on more important things.
