North Korea’s developing incline towards nuclear and missile attacks for showcasing their strength to the world has irked the US authorities. So much so, that the Defence Secretary of United Nations, James Mattis has warned the country of a “massive military action” if North Korea resorted to a nuclear strike on the country or its allies.

After talking with South Korean Defence Minister, Song Young-moo in Seoul during which many threats by North Korea were pointed out due to their "unnecessary" nuclear and missile programmes, James responded in the calmest manner and claimed that North Korea can never match the combined force by US and allies.

He didn’t forget to take a jib at the enemy country by pointing that diplomacy can only work when it is “backed by credible military force”. While visiting a border guard post and a Joint Security Area which divides the two Koreas, James expressed the US’s plan for tackling North Korea.

Mattis remarked, “Make no mistake - any attack on the United States, or our allies, will be defeated. And any use of nuclear weapons will be met with a massive military response that is both effective and overwhelming.”

The minister reached Seoul to attend the 49th annual Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) between the US and South Korea on Friday. During his week-long Asia visit, James will assure to address most of the threatening issues before the President, Donald Trump’s Asian visit next week.

The United Nations and North Korea are currently moving towards the situation of cold war, given the heated arguments exchanged between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump on various occasions.
