Australian Parliament has given a go ahead to same sex marriages. Australia now joins a super league of 26 nations that have allowed same-sex marriages. An overwhelming majority of MP’s voted to change the Marriage Act.

Out of 150 MP’s, only 4 voted against the marriage equality bill. Loud cheer and clapping were heard in the lower House of Representatives after the passage of the bill.

It's time for more marriages. More commitment. More love. More respect. Marriage equality has passed! PM Malcolm Turnbull tweeted.

Not long now, let's get this done #MarriageEquality tweeted the opposition leader Bill Shorten few hours before the crucial vote. He even wore a pair of rainbow socks to the Parliament.

The bill was tabled in parliament by the conservative government after Australians last month endorsed the reforms in a controversial voluntary postal vote.

Nearly 80 per cent of eligible voters took part in the poll, and almost 62 per cent of the 12.7 million people who participated chose “yes” on their postal ballots.
