The Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor addressed a press conference in Rawalpindi on Friday and said that Pakistan army is preparing to defend against any attack by India, and would respond with “full force”.

The statement came after Prime Minister Imran Khan authorised the military to begin preparations for a possible attack from India.

Pakistan army held this press conference in order to clarify their stand amid rising tension on the border after Pulwama Attack that left 40 CRPF jawans dead.

Ghafoor said Pakistan took some time to respond and the prime minister issued his statement after seeing shortsightedness of India.

He began by providing historical background and context about Pakistan-India ties dating back to Partition, saying that although it had been 70 years since then, "India still hasn't been able to accept it."

Ghafoor also denied that Pakistan was preparing for war. "We do not wish to go to war but please be rest assured should you initiate any aggression, first you will never be able to surprise us. But let me assure you, we will surprise you. We shall also dominate the escalation ladder. Never think due to our commitments elsewhere we will have any capacity lack," he said.

"We have the will and determination, ways and means to reach our desired state. We can respond to a full spectrum threat. We hope you get this and don’t mess with Pakistan," Major General Ghafoor said in a rhetorical challenge.

The DG ISPR noted that despite's India's efforts to diplomatically isolate Pakistan since 2016, foreign heads of state and dignitaries had been visiting, foreign investment was pouring in, development on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was underway, and military cooperation and diplomacy was also ongoing.
