Former Cricketer and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan averted disqualification as the Supreme Court of Pakistan announced its decision on petitions filed by Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Hanif Abbasi on Friday.

While giving a clean chit to Khan, the Pakistan SC disqualified Jahangir Khan Tareen as Member of the National Assembly for life under article 62-1(f). The same article was the reason for the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar announced the judgment.

Under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution of Pakistan, a person cannot be qualified as member of the national or provincial legislatures, if he is not 'Sadiq and Ameen' – truthful and trustworthy.

Jahangir Khan Tareen is the General Secretary of PTI and the wealthiest politician in the Islamic country. PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi had filed petitions seeking disqualification of Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen for non-disclosure of their assets and ownership of offshore companies abroad.

While Imran Khan’s supporters are celebrating the clean chit, PPP and PML-N supporters and leaders are gunning at PTI on Tareen’s disqualification. Referring to Tareen as Imran’s ATM, PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto tweeted “ATM out of order #TareenOUT.”

PTI tweeted Imran Khan’s statement on the disqualification of Tareen “A taxpayer shouldn't be compared to a crook, I'm saddened that Jahangir Tareen has been disqualified but the verdict is duly accepted.”
