Girls’ schools in the region have frequently come under terrorist attacks. 4 years ago, 9 schools were attacked in a similar fashion in the Chilas area alone.

PTI Chief Imran Khan who is set to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan had condemned the attack on schools and tweeted, “This is unacceptable (and) we will ensure security for schools as we are committed to focusing on education.”

Malala Yusafzai’s father Ziauddin too had condemned the attack and wrote on Twitter, “I strongly condemn attack on 12 Girls' Schools in #Diamer #GilgitBaltistan #Pakistan. We have to provide the same sanctity to our schools and educational institutions as we do to mosques, temples and churches.”
