Pakistan Hits Back On Trump's Tweet, Says US Has Given Us Nothing But Invective And Mistrust

US President Donald Trump began the New Year with a tweet lashing out at Pakistan, that despite the US giving Pakistan billions of dollars in aid, the nation gave them nothing but lies and deceit, to which the Pakistan Defence Ministry responded in a statement.

"Pak as anti-terror ally has given free to US: land & air communication, military bases & intelligence cooperation that decimated Al-Qaeda over last 16 years, but they have given us nothing but invective & mistrust. They overlook cross-border safe havens of terrorists who murder Pakistanis," an official Twitter handle of the Pakistan Minister of Defence Khurram Dastgir-Khan said.

While Trump has been increasing pressure on Pakistan to act against the safe havens for terrorists on its soil, his tweet depicted more harshness.

"The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!" Trump tweeted.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif in an interview with Geo was quoted as saying that the US should not blame Pakistan for its failures in Afghanistan, and that the US should hold "its own people accountable for its failures in Afghanistan."
