After the death of Osama bin Laden, an infamous al-Qaida leader considered to be responsible for the September 11 attacks in New York, his remaining family has largely stayed away from the limelight.

However, the bin Laden family's connection with the September 11 attacks has become permanent as Osama's son Hamza bin Laden has now married the daughter of Egyptian national Mohammed Atta, the lead hijacker in the 9/11 terror attacks, media reported on Monday.

Osama's half-brothers Ahmad and Hassan al-Attas confirmed Hamza's marriage during an interview with the Guardian, adding that they believed Hamza had taken a senior position within the al-Qaida.

“We have heard he has married the daughter of Mohammed Atta,” said Ahmad al-Attas. “We’re not sure where he is, but it could be Afghanistan.”

Hamza is the son of Khairiah Sabar, one of Osama bin Laden's 3 surviving who was living with her husband in Pakistan's Abbottabad compound when he was killed by American forces in retaliation for the 9/11 attacks. From other sons of bin Laden, Khalid was killed in the US raid in Abbottabad while the third, Saad was killed in a drone strike in Afghanistan in 2009.

“When we thought everyone was over this, next thing I knew was Hamza saying I am going to avenge my father,” said Hassan al-Attas. “I don’t want to go through that again.

“If Hamza was in front of me now, I would tell him: God guide you. Think twice about what you are doing. Don’t retake the steps of your father. You are entering really negative and horrible parts of your soul.”

Hamza is considered to be a deputy of the al-Qaida's current leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, has made public statements urging followers to wage war on Washington, London, Paris and Tel Aviv.

Due to Hamza's status within the al-Qaida, the US government marked him as a specially designated global terrorist in January 2017. Not many details are available about his purported wife, who would likely have been born after the 9/11 attacks since Atta had no mention of her before then.
