Lahore: Former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif And Daughter Maryam Arrested In Avenfield Reference Case

Pakistan’s Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Sharif convicted for owning expensive properties in London were arrested on Friday at Lahore airport upon their arrival in Lahore from London.


Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to a 10 years imprisonment on July 6 in the Avenfield properties reference case while his daughter Maryam was sentenced to a 7 years imprisonment.

 “Who wants to go to jail? But it is a very small price to pay for my mission, which is to establish the sanctity of the vote in Pakistan,” Sharif told the guardian in the Etihad airlines Flight.

On the grounds of Sharif's arrest, Lahore witnessed a huge outrage from his party workers and supporters.

Sharif's brother and President of the Pakistan Muslim League-N,  Shehbaz Sharif appealed all Pakistanis to vote for the party candidates in the upcoming elections on July 25.

He said Sharif had left his ailing wife in London to return back to Pakistan for the betterment of the country.
