At a time when the world, including the US and the United Nations, is attempting to deter North Korea from continuing with its nuclear testing, the Supreme Leader of the nation Kim Jong-Un in his New Year's address called for an acceleration of mass production of nuclear warheads.

"As for the areas of nuclear weapons research and rocket engineering, we need to accelerate the mass production of nuclear warheads, whose power and reliability have already been secured, and ballistic missiles," Kim said during his annual address on New Year's Day.

Kim reiterated his threats against the United States, warning that the "nuclear button" is always on his desk.

"The entire mainland of the US is within the range of our nuclear weapons and the nuclear button is always on the desk of my office. They should accurately be aware that this is not a threat but a reality," said Kim during his annual address.

Kim added that his country is "a responsible nuclear nation that loves peace" and said that as long as there's no aggression towards it, "we do not intend to use nuclear powers."

The unrestrained nuclear and ballistic missile tests carried out by North Korea, that indicate its capability to reach South Korea, Japan and the US mainland were met by swift condemnation and increasingly stringent sanctions from the UN Security Council.
