North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un Arrives in Singapore Ahead Of Korea-US Summit

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un arrived at the Changi airport in Singapore on Sunday around 3 PM, two days ahead of a historic summit with United States President Donald Trump. Later in the day, the North Korean leader is scheduled to meet Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

"Welcomed Chairman Kim Jong Un, who has just arrived in Singapore," Singapore's Foreign Affairs Minister Balakrishnan tweeted along with a photo of him shaking hands with Kim in front of his aeroplane.

US President Donald Trump on Saturday left two-day Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Canada's La Malbaie early to head to Singapore for this upcoming summit. Trump is scheduled to arrive at Singapore's Paya Lebar Airbase.

According to the White House, the United States President is scheduled to arrive in Singapore at around 8 PM on Sunday and he would go directly to his hotel.

The summit between Trump and Kim, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Capella Hotel. It will be the first meeting between the sitting leaders of North Korea and the US, where the process regarding denuclearisation of North Korea may kick-start in exchange for economic aid.

According to Al-Jazeera officials onboard the US President’s aircraft Air Force One include Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Adviser John Bolton, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.
