Israeli Air Force jets conducted a series of strikes on 9 terror targets in Gaza on Sunday night, reportedly destroying several Hamas military targets in retaliation to alleged arson attempted and 'explosive kites and balloons' being sent from Gaza into southern Israel.

"The IDF attacked nine terror targets in two military compounds and a weapons manufacturing facility belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in the northern Gaza Strip in response to the firing of kites and explosives and incendiary attacks on Israeli territory," the army said in a statement, referring to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The IDF spokesperson also released video footage of the Israeli Air Force's strikes on the northern Gaza Strip.

The IDF maintained that it holds Hamas responsible for “everything in and out of the Gaza Strip” and “will bear the consequences” of its actions or inactions.

In late March, Palestinians used balloons and kites to send homemade explosive devices into Israel, many of them targeting farmlands close to the Gaza border, causing a number of fires across southern Israel.

To target the balloon and kite based attacks, Israel limited the amount of helium gas that can be brought into Gaza to only for medical use, and threatened to cut off the supply altogether unless the attacks cease.

The IDF alleged that similar arson launches took place in southern Gaza on Sunday, to which the Israeli Air Force responded by firing shots.

More than 130 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces during the protests along the border with Gaza. The UN General Assembly has condemned Israel’s “excessive use of force” against Palestinian demonstrators, adopting a nonbinding resolution last week itself.
