(Photo: AP)[/caption] Is the Republican party responsible for this week's fatal Amtrak crash in America which killed at least seven people and injured more than 200? The Democrats definitely think so. "To deny a connection between the accident and under-funding Amtrak is to deny reality," said Senator Chuck Schumer of the Democratic party. Schumer alleged that "insufficient funding" had delayed installation of an advanced electronic system for keeping trains from speeding, called positive train control, on the track where the accident occurred. Amtrak President Joseph Boardman said in an interview Thursday that the new system was installed on the tracks in the area but was not in use because more testing was needed. House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday that this week's fatal Amtrak crash wasn't caused by a lack of federal funds and mocked a reporter for even asking about it. "Are you really going to ask such a stupid question?" he said at a news conference as a reporter started to ask about Democratic complaints that the government shortchanges the railroad. "Obviously it's not about funding. The train was going twice the speed limit," Boehner said. Schumer said that Boehner's comments were "patently false" because its it the Republicans which voted to cut Amtrak's budget. Boehner spoke a day after the Republican-run House Appropriations Committee voted to cut Amtrak's budget for next year to $1.1 billion, a $251 million reduction. The panel also voted down a Democratic effort to boost federal funds for the railroad by more than $1 billion, including extra money for the busy Northeast corridor, where the derailment occurred. Federal investigators have said the train was traveling 106 miles per hour before hitting a curve where the speed limit is 50 mph. The accident occurred in Philadelphia. Boehner says adequate funding has already been provided and rail safety spending has not been cut. "It's hard for me to imagine that people take the bait on some of the nonsense that gets spewed around here," he said.

I don't care what the funding level has been for Amtrak, the reason for the crash is that the train was traveling at more than twice the max speed for that area. The investigation needs to continue and find out why the engineer was so irresponsible. Chuck Schumer is looking for anything he can lead the low to no information voters to blame on the republicans and support throwing more money at any issue.

For all the dimwits out there that don't seem to be able to connect lack of funding to avoidable accidents, yes, the Repugs -- in their ongoing effort to defund anything that's government run and taxpayer funded, trying to privatize every single service in this country to line the pockets of their wealthy corporate donors -- could have prevented this accident and many others just like it by actually providing the necessary funds to run an efficient operation and upgrade the service to current technology. But no, in their quest for more, more, more money in their pockets they always totally discount the collateral damage of their efforts. And unfortunately, that usually means trouble for the rest of us. If current safe technology had been installed on this train, it wouldn't matter whatever the guy running it was doing, it would've slowed down in time and people's lives would be saved.

You seriously think Republicans are responsible for a mentally defective gay activist who was obsessed with 'human error' train accidents deciding to go all "Germanwings" and attempting mass-murder/suicide? You are mentally ill.

You think Republicans are responsible for a mentally defective gay activist obsessed with 'safety issues' and 'human error' train accidents deciding to go all "Germanwings" and attempt mass murder and suicide with the train some liberal idiot made him responsible for? Huh. You're as sick as he is.
