A massive fire broke out in a South Korean hospital which led to the killing of 41 people while 70 people are injured, eight of whom are in the critical situation as per the media reports.

This fire accident is reported to be the most fatal than those of previous ones, the Yonhap News Agency’s reports. It further added that the last month’s fire was not that much massive which killed 29 people in a high rise sports center.

President Moon Jae-in conducted an emergency meeting with top aides and called on the government to take "all necessary measures" to help survivors.

The fire erupted at around 7.30 am (2230 GMT) at the rear of the emergency room on the first floor of Sejong Hospital and was mostly extinguished after a few hours, Choi Man-woo, the head of Miryang city's fire station, briefed televised media.

Firemen rescued about 200 people directly from the hospital building and nursing home behind the hospital, Choi said.

Media footage showed one patient carrying another one to save his life. Earlier on Friday, news channel, YTN showed black smoke billowing from the windows and entrance to the hospital and flames flickering.

People evacuated from the hospital were being treated at four other hospitals nearby, YTN said.
