US President Donald Trump, since coming into office has gained quite a few critics who have spoken out against him. Former FBI Director James in an interview with ABC News on Sunday night, admitted to Trump being mentally fit for the presidency but said that he was "morally unfit to be president".

Comey, who had been fired by Trump last May, appeared in the exclusive interview with ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos ahead of the publication of his autobiography "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership" on Tuesday.

"Our president must embody respect and adhere to the values that are at the core of this country. The most important being truth. This president is not able to do that," Comey said.

"I don't buy this stuff about him being mentally incompetent or early stages of dementia. He strikes me as a person of above average intelligence who's tracking conversations and knows what's going on. I don't think he's medically unfit to be president. I think he's morally unfit to be president,” he said.

“A person who sees moral equivalence in Charlottesville, who talks about and treats women like they're pieces of meat, who lies constantly about matters big and small and insists the American people believe it, that person's not fit to be president of the United States, on moral grounds,” Comey said, but ruled out impeachment of Trump.

"I think impeaching and removing Donald Trump from office would let the American people off the hook and have something happen indirectly that I believe they're duty bound to do directly. People in this country need to stand up and go to the voting booth and vote their values," Comey said.

"We'll fight about guns. We'll fight about taxes. We'll fight about all those other things down the road. But you cannot have, as president of the United States, someone who does not reflect the values that I believe Republicans treasure and Democrats treasure and Independents treasure," he said.

The former FBI Director did not rule out that the Russians "have something on Donald Trump," which may be used to blackmail the US President.

"It is stunning and I wish I wasn't saying it, but it's just ... it's the truth. I cannot say that [Trump is not subject to Russian blackmail]. It always struck me and still strikes me as unlikely, and I woulda been able to say with high confidence about any other president I dealt with, but I can't. It's possible," said Comey.

US President Trump slammed Comey in a tweet, saying, "Slippery James Comey, a man who always ends up badly and out of whack (he is not smart!), will go down as the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!"
