Surigao Governor Sol Matugas said the quake struck late Friday night, 14 km northwest of the city, Xinhua news agency reported. Matugas said that the earthquake caused power outages in the city, destroyed the airport runway, bridges and buildings, including hotels and schools. The agency has recorded at least 89 aftershocks after Friday's quake. Meanwhile, city residents posted images on social media of the damages after the quake. A Surigao-based television station posted pictures of a two-storey house with collapsed walls. Hundreds of residents fled their homes and spent the night outside, according to local authorities.
