Renowned Assamese singer Angarag Papon Mahanta, popularly known as Papon was booked under the POCSO Act for 'inappropriately kissing a minor girl' during a Facebook Live video. The incident caught nation-wide attention when an advocate, Runa Bhuyan filed a complaint against the singer with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

While Papon has clarified his stance justifying the faulty camera angle for the incident, the criticising statements from a number of celebrities, social activists, journalists and political leaders have pushed the singer to step down as the jury member of 'The Voice of India Kids Season 2', which also features Himesh Reshammiya, Shaan, and Palak Muchhal.

Following Papon's lengthy justification, the teenager's father also requested the media to not stretch the issue and defended the singer stating that the latter is a "father figure" to his daughter. "What you saw in the video is not intentional. It was just a moment of affection that is being portrayed otherwise," he said

However, veteran actress Raveena Tandon feels that the minor girl's parents are succumbing to pressure and felt the act is absolutely disgusting, shameful, and perverse. Gauhar Khan, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and Sonam Mahajan are among many renowned names who have openly slammed Papon for the inappropriate kiss.

Although, many close to the singer felt that the issue was getting dragged for no reason. While Farah Khan admitted of getting uncomfortable after watching the video but confirmed that Papon is a good man. Monali Thakur and Suchitra Pillai also extended their support to the musician.
