IFC Films released the first official trailer for “The Wedding Guest”, the latest film from director Michael Winterbottom starring Dev Patel and Radhika Apte and Jim Sarbh.

In 2 minutes 22 seconds trailer, we were introduced to Dev Patel’s character, Jay, a man with a secret who travels from Britain to Pakistan to attend a wedding. And by attending, we mean he intends to kidnap the bride-to-be.

He enters India and procures a car and then travels to a remote village in search of Sameera, played by Apte. When he finds her, they go on the run, away from unseen enemies.

Despite his level-head and all of his planning, things rapidly spiral out of control, sending Jay and his hostage on the run across the border, utilizing railway stations, back alleys, and black markets of New Delhi to escape. Attractions begin to simmer, loyalties realign, and major secrets are revealed along the way.

“The Wedding Guest” dives deep into the shadowy underworlds and hidden realms of Pakistan and India and its trailer gives a glimpse of the film’s leads making their way through the countries. All Radhika says is that she did not want to get married, while the kidnapper’s past is not revealed.

Patel and Winterbottom, who also penned the script, also serve as producers alongside Parmenter, Deepak Nayar, and Nik Bower. The film, which also stars Jim Sarbh and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September, will open in select theaters on March 1.
