If you saw a sudden fall in the number of your Twitter followers then no need to confuse yourself as Twitter announced on Wednesday that users are likely to experience this sudden spew.

Twitter that has been actively erasing fake accounts from last couple months is continuing to delete fake or spam accounts from the platform to build trust and encourage healthy conversation on Twitter.

A Twitter blog post on Wednesday said, “Most people will see a change of four followers or fewer; others with larger follower counts will experience a more significant drop. We understand this may be hard for some, but we believe accuracy and transparency make Twitter a more trusted service for public conversation.”

“Though the most significant changes are happening in the next few days, follower counts may continue to change more regularly as part of our ongoing work to proactively identify and challenge problematic accounts,” the post read.

Twitter is locking the account when it finds sudden changes in account behaviour and in that situation, Twitter will directly approach the account owner to validate their accounts and reset their passwords. Until the procedure completes Twitter will keep the concerned accounts locked with no ability to log in.

In the month of May and June, Twitter had removed over 70 million fake accounts and is continuously erasing. That also led to a major decline in the number of monthly users in the second quarter that ended last month.
