Reliance Jio made headlines last year with its launch and became popular among the masses for its eye-popping plans. A few months back, Mukesh Ambani's announcement about launching the "free" feature phone caught the attention of many who booked one for themselves as soon as the booking started.

The delivery of handsets has just started a few days back and many are still waiting to get their hands on their orders but in the midst of it all, a shocking case of Jio Phone explosion was brought to light. Apparently, Reliance claims that the damage was caused by the intentional sabotage and there is no manufacturing fault in the device.

Notably, last year also Reliance's one of the Lyf smartphones has burst into flames yet no reason for the cause was defined the company. Much like the case, many mishaps with the latest devices of tech titans Samsung, Xiaomi and Apple are surfacing.

A user who earlier uploaded the image of his Jio Phone with the melted back panel on Twitter has now deleted his tweet. The explosion which reportedly took place in Kashmir took place while the phone was charging. Apparently, the charger's wire has also melted but the battery is still usable.

While talking to a leading technology website, a Reliance Retail Spokesperson said, "Jio Phones are designed and manufactured with global standards, and each phone goes through stringent quality control process. The said incident has been reported to us."

He added, "Our initial investigation suggests that this is a case of intentional sabotage. The damage to the device seems to have been intentionally caused. The incident, as well as its timing, has been designed by vested interests to malign the brand. We will take appropriate action based on further investigations."

With the initial deposit of Rs 1,500, Reliance offers Jio Phone with a zero effective price and allows the user to access the 4G internet as well as access multimedia like movie, music and video. The feature phone has inspired many other telecom brands to come up with their own low-budget phones.
