Indian captain Virat Kohli held onto the second spot in ICC’s Test batsmen rankings. He is only 17 points behind former Australian skipper Steve Smith. The latest ranking came out on Wednesday.

Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara also held onto his spot in the seventh place, while in bowlers, Ravindra Jadeja maintained his second spot, but Ravichandran Ashwin lost a place and slipped down to the fifth position in the rankings.

It was the South Africans who benefitted the most from the changes in the ranking. Pace bowler Vernon Philander's player of the match effort of nine for 51 has lifted him six places to third and player of the series, Kagiso Rabada, remains at the top.

In other movements, New Zealand's player of the match Tim Southee has moved up three places to take the 13th slot, while Stuart Broad has gained five slots to reach 12th place.

Meanwhile, New Zealand has leapfrogged Australia to third place in the ICC Test Team Rankings.

The swapping of places has resulted in a clear gain of $100,000 for New Zealand as they will now receive $200,000 from ICC for taking the third spot at the cut-off date of April 3.

Australia will get half that amount after finishing fourth.
