With a 3-1 aggregate advantage, Real Madrid travels to Paris with brimming optimism as their chances to win the two-leg tie of last 16 in UEFA Champions League appears to be high. The absence of PSG superstar Neymar has also put the odds in the Spanish side’s favour.

This time last year, PSG had a 4-0 advantage over Barcelona and it was Neymar at the time who orchestrated a scintillating comeback to oust his current side from the tournament.

The second leg tie is the arguably the most important match for PSG this season as they have overwhelmed oppositions in every other competition. Bringing in Neymar for 198 Million and Kylian Mbappe potentially for 168 million, the two most expensive transfers in history, they had set their goals and ambitions high. It would be a disaster if it was predicted that they’d be ousted this early in the competition.

But, it wasn’t down to lack of skill that PSG have found themselves in this predicament. In the first leg, it was the Parisian side who took the lead and also dominated the early exchanges, but it was inspired substitution by the Real Madrid manager that saw a swing in momentum.

All is not virtually over for PSG, as their star-studded squad has potential to win against any team on their day. With the likes of aforementioned Mbappe, Angel di Maria, Edinson Cavani and Julian Draxler they possess a potent attacking intent. It will again be the battle against themselves.

Coach Unai Emery will be aware of the expenditure his board has made in the past summer. The expectations will be high from Les Parisiens.
