Real Madrid had to yet again rely on their star Cristiano Ronaldo to deliver at the last minutes of the game to take his team through to semi-finals against Juventus on Wednesday.

After winning the first leg by 3-0, Real Madrid had to survive a second-half onslaught from the Italian champions Juventus who equalled the scoreline on aggregate.

The tie was all set to go into the extra-time, till Madrid won a last-gasp penalty in the 98th minute. Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up, with the whole stadium and world’s eyes on him, and delivered to win the tie and took the defending champions to the semi-finals.

On Wednesday morning, Madrid newspaper Marca had revelled in Barcelona's collapse against Roma the night before with the headline 'Total Failure', but Zinedine Zidane's side came within a whisker of trumping that with an emphatic loss on their own patch.

Real Madrid’s weaknesses have been exposed in this tie about how shaky they are at the back and how they can succumb to pressure. Their semi-final opponents will be looking to exploit this chink in their armour.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich breezed past Sevilla on aggregate on Wednesday as the German Champions led the tie by 2-1. With the threat the Spanish club possesses, Bayern Munich weren’t complacent as they ensured their place in the last four.

The four teams in the semi-final are:

  • Liverpool
  • AS Roma
  • Real Madrid
  • Bayern Munich

The draw for semi-final matchups will be made on April 13.
