Sri Lankan Skipper Dinesh Chandimal Booked For Ball Tampering

The International Cricket Council on Sunday Sri Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal of ball tampering charges for the break of Level 2.2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct 

The cricket governing body confirming the charges, tweeted on Sunday, "Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal has been charged for breaching Level 2.2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct."


Earlier on Saturday, The Sri Lankan team was told by the umpires Ian Gould and Aleem Dar that they would change the ball on the third day of the match followed by awarding five penalty runs to the opposition, West Indies, concerning the condition of the ball.

The Sri Lankan players on Saturday refused to play on the third day (Sunday) of the match. However, the team agreed to change the ball and the game was resumed two hours later it was scheduled.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) giving a statement on the issue tweeted, “The team management has informed us that Sri Lankan players have not engaged in any wrongdoing.

SLC also advised the team to take the field to ensure the continuity of the match and wish to commend the decision taken by the team ‘under protest’ to ensure the upholding of the spirit of the game.

West Indies are leading the three-match series by 1-0, winning the first match by a massive difference of 226 runs.
