French Open: Simona Halep Beats Sloane Stephens To Win Her First Grand Slam

World Number 1 Tennis player Simona Halep won her first French Open defeating Sloane Stephens 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. The Romanian tennis star seemed perturbed in the first set and was pushed to the edge by her opponent. Halep lost the first set 3-6. However, she made a great comeback in the second set and won it conveniently by 6-4. By the third set her confidence and game both soared and she won it by 6-1.

The first set reminded tennis fans of Halep’s last three grand slam finals. Sloane Stephens was playing the game perfectly with her movements across the baseline returning Halep’s deliveries and forcing her to make errors. Sloane could not carry the momentum and the next two sets saw the brilliance of Halep’s game.

After winning the match Halep, overtaken with joy dropped her racket and covered her face with both her hands.

Speaking about the first set setback and the subsequent comeback, Halep said, “ It's always tough to play against her. She was very strong on the court. When I was down a break in the second set I said OK, everything is gone, I just have to start to relax and to enjoy the match. And I came back."
