World Number one tennis Player Simona Halep will meet Sloane Stephens in the finals of the French Open in Paris on Saturday.

This is the second consecutive French Open Final appearance for Romanian Halep. She lost the French Open 2017 to then unseeded Jeļena Ostapenko of Latvia. Ostapenko is the only Latvian to win the trophy at Rolland Garros.

Halep had to satisfy with the runner-up trophy in the 2014 French Open as well, losing the match 4-6, 7-6, 4-6 to Maria Sharapova. Her Australian Open 2018 met a similar ending when she lost to Carolina Wozniacki in a tightly contested game.

Halep says she would ‘stay chilled’ in the Finals on Saturday.

“I've lost three times up until now; no one died. It's a big chance but you never know, so I will stay chilled." 26 years old Halep was quoted as saying.

Sloane Stephens, the underdog in the French Open Finals is not an easy opponent. Her records at Final matches show her determination and nerve. Sloane has played six final matches including the US Open 2017 and has won them all. She would want to keep up her winning streak. She defeated her opponent in the semifinals in straight sets of 6-4, 6-4.

Interestingly Halep has a 5-2 lead on Stephens and Halep had thrashed Stephens 6-4, 6-3 in the 2014 French Open Campaign.

It will be interesting to see if Halep finally manages to win her maiden grand slam or if Sloane Stephens will win her first French Open.
