Toni Kroos, who excelled in Madrid's 3-1 defeat of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday, has suffered a sprain to the exterior lateral ligament in his left knee.

The German midfielder collided with Kylian Mbappe in the 34th minute, at which point the former Bayern Munich star was also penalised for the foul.

"Following tests carried out on Toni Kroos, he has been diagnosed with a sprain to the exterior lateral ligament in the left knee. His recovery will continue to be assessed," Real said in a statement on their website.

Although the club has not given the extent of the injury, it is known that Kroos will be out of action for at least a fortnight and possibly more, reports Xinhua news agency.
That means he will miss Liga Santander matches against Betis, Leganes, Alaves and Espanyol and is a doubt for the following weekend against Getafe.
The big date on Real Madrid's calendar is the Champions League return leg away to Paris Saint Germain on March 6th. The club is hoping to have him back in time.
