Sania Mirza: Honoured To Share Wimbledon Title With India

sania mirzaSania Mirza, the wonder girl of Indian tennis spoke to the media in Hyderabad after clinching her maiden women's doubles title at Wimbledon with her partner Martina Hingis. Sania created history on saturday as she fought hard in tandem with her Swiss partner Martina Hingis to outplay the second seeded Makarova and Elena Vesnina 5-7 7-6 (4) 7-5 in a highly competitive final. Sania becomes the first female tennis player from India to win a Wimbledon title. Talking to the reporters at her home, Sania accentuated that it was a dream come true to clinch her first Wimbledon title. She informed the media that as a child she always wanted to play in Wimbledon and considers herself to be lucky to bag four Grand Slams in her career. She also added that she is honoured to hail from a country which is so passionate about sports. She dedicated this triumph to the people who supported her and most importantly to the country where she was raised. We are not the most tennis-friendly nation. We lack a system. I think we need that," said Sania. Sania's successful run over the years with Swiss legend Martina Hingis is now being considered as one of the most dominating pairs in Wimbledon history and Sania conveyed that she is very pleased to have a partner like Hingis by her side on the court.
