Javelin Thrower Sandeep Chaudhary Grabs India's 1st Gold Medal At The Para Asian Games 2018

Javelin thrower Sandeep Chaudhary grabbed India's first gold medal at the 2018 Para Asian Games, held in Jakarta, Indonesia on Monday.

The Indian Javelin thrower won the top prize in the men's F42-44/61-64 event with a best throw covering a distance of 60.01-metre throw in his 3rd attempt at the continental extravaganza, hence extended India's medal tally to six. Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Sampath Hetti won the silver medal with a throw of 59.32m while Omidi Ali of Iran with a best of 58.97m had to settle for the bronze. 

The F42-44/61-64 category relates athletes with limb deficiency, leg length difference, impaired muscle power or impaired range of movement. The athletes in the category participate without a prosthesis.

The Indian players, on Sunday, had also won two silver and three bronze medals. In the 49kg men's powerlifting event, Farman Basha claimed the silver medal and Paramjeet Kumar won the bronze medal.

Swimmer Devanshi Satijawon bagged a silver in women's 100-metre butterfly in S-10 category and Suyash Jadhav clinched the bronze in the men's 200-metre individual medley in the SM-7 category.
