Saina Nehwal Loses To Carolina Marin In Quarter-Finals Of Badminton World Championship

Indian Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal was eliminated of the ongoing Badminton World Championships, in Nanjing, China by the Olympics gold medallist and Spanish sensation Carolina Marin on Friday.

Earlier in the day, it was a disappointment for Indian mixed pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa as the duo also lost their mixed doubles quarterfinal clash with a scoreline of 17-21, 10-21 against the Chinese pair of Siwei Zheng and Yaqiong Huang.

Carolina Marin dominated the quarter-final as she looked in fine touch and did not give a chance to the 10th seeded Indian shuttler to impose her game. Marin defeated Saina in two straight games with a score of 6-21, 11-21 which lasted for just 31 minutes.

In the 1st game, Saina does not look in her touch and played with a defensive approach, and Marin made good use to Saina's approach and accumulated quick points to build a heavy lead with a score of 11-2 till the mid-game break.

Even after the break, Indian shuttler looked out of touch and despite her best, failed to get better of her counterpart and went on to lose eight consecutive points, thus losing the first game 6-21 in just 12 minutes.

In the 2nd game, Indian shuttler opened the scoring but it was again Marin who gained a comfortable 7-3 lead, however, Saina tried hard to make a comeback and managed to battle the scoreline with 8-11 till the mid-game break.

From there on, the Indian ace shuttler kept on sending the shuttle in illegal areas, although Marine gave few points to her Indian counter-part but eased through to wrap up the deal and the game with a score of  21-11 in 19 minutes.

Up next, Marin will now face Chinese shuttler He BingJiao in her semi-final clash on Saturday.
