Saina Nehwal Beats World No. 2 Akane Yamaguchi To Enter Denmark Open Quarter-Final

Indian Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal on Thursday has defeated the world no. 2 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan to enter the quarter-final of the Denmark Open.

Nehwal registered an easy win with a scoreline of 21-15, 21-17 over Yamaguchi after a long four years. Nehwal against Yamaguchi won in 2014 during the China Open. 

After this win now, Nehwal will face world no.3 Nozomi Okuhara, another Japanese shuttler in the quarter-final match.

Initially, in the match, Nehwal was trailed by 0-4 but made a strong come back to level the score at 10-10 and later widened it to 19-12 to clinch the set. 

In the second game, again Nehwal took the early lead and Yamaguchi caught her up at 11-11 and at 17-17 but as Nehwal was in confidence after winning the first set, she won the set by a close margin.

Before this match, Nehwal was defeated by Yamaguchi six times in the head to head encounters.
