Belarus 20-year-old Aryna Sabalenka, Croatias Marin Cilic and German veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber have made it to the 4th Round of the US Open on Saturday.

Sabalenka has added the Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova to the growing list of top-seeded female players to have been eliminated from the US Open.

Sabalenka, who had never gone beyond the second round of a Grand Slam tournament, defeated Kvitova 7-5, 6-1 on Saturday to book her place in the US Open Round of 16, reports Efe news.

Kvitova, usually reliant on her big hitting, made 35 unforced errors to Sabalenka's 20, as the former Wimbledon champion became the latest top seed to be eliminated from Flushing Meadows, along with world number one Simona Halep, number two Caroline Wozniacki and number four Angelique Kerber.

Kvitova's exit means that 10 of the top 13 seeded players have been eliminated from the women's draw.

Sabalenka, meanwhile, moves on to the fourth round, where she will face Naomi Osaka.

Croatias Marin Cilic fought back from two sets down against 19-year-old Australian Alex de Minaur to advance to the Round of 16 at the US Open tennis tournament.

The rising star gave the seventh seed an almighty scare on Saturday, forcing the Croat to dig deep in a marathon five-setter, reports Efe news agency.

De Minaur was fearless throughout the topsy turvy match, saving six match points in the fifth set to extend the march and delight the crowd inside Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Cilic, who won the US Open in 2014, eventually prevailed after four hours of gruelling tennis to seal his place in the Round of 16.

German veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber delivered the shock of the mens draw so far after beating his fourth-seeded compatriot Alexander Zverev 6-7 (1), 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 in their third round tie at the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

The world number 34, who is making his 16th appearance at the US Open, demonstrated better focus and efficiency on Saturday, particularly after having secured the crucial break of serve in the second set, which Kohlschreiber won 6-4.

The first set had been decided by a tiebreaker in what was an even opening to the match, but Kohlschreiber dominated the proceedings after that second set, as the younger Zverev had no answer to the veteran's accuracy, reports Efe news.

Kohlschreiber moves on to the Round of 16, where he will face Japan's
