Roger Federer, Serena Williams Honoured With Sportsman & Sportswoman Of The Year

Tennis legend and superstar Roger Federer becomes the most decorated winner in the history of Laureus World Sports Awards, winning his sixth honour at the 18th edition of the prestigious awards ceremony.

In the Sportsman of the Year category, Federer waved off tough competition from the likes of Rafael Nadal and Cristiano Ronaldo to bag the honours. The Swiss tennis star, who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year, also clinched the Comeback of the Year award following his achievements after making a comeback from a serious knee injury.

Meanwhile, in the Women category, American tennis great Serena Williams won the Sportswoman of the Year Award. She became the most decorated female Laureus Award winner with Laureus statuettes. She wasn't present at the award ceremony.

Among other winners were four-time consecutive Formula 1 Constructors World Championship Title holders Mercedes AMG Petronas. They beat the likes of UEFA Champions League and La Liga winners Real Madrid, and NBA Champions Golden State Warriors.

Attended by sports stars, celebrities and business leaders from around the world, the awards recognised sporting achievement in the 2017 calendar year and were hosted by Hollywood superstar Benedict Cumberbatch, while world-renowned singer-songwriter Emeli Sand performed for guests.
