In a close match at the US Open 2018, the 5-time title winner Roger Federer has been knocked out of the tournament on Tuesday after losing to world number 55 John Millman.

Federer lost the match with a scoreline of 3-6 7-5 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-3) with the match lasting for about 3 hours 38 minutes. At the US Open, it is for the first time when Federer lost to a player ranked outside of the top 50.

Federer was in good touch and had triumph the first round by 3-6 score but later was unable to find his timings right as he landed just six of his 24 first serves in the second game. He had set points in the second and third sets but couldn't convert.

On winning against no 2 ranking player Millman was quoted by US Open as saying, “I’m probably in a little bit of disbelief. I have so much respect for Roger and everything he’s done for the game. He’s been a hero of mine. And today he was definitely not at his best, but I’ll take it.”

“I felt like a bit of a deer in headlights, to begin with, to be honest with you. The feet weren’t moving. Roger had it on a string; he was manipulating me around the court. But I got out of a tough second set and really found my feet and started to be a little bit more aggressive. I think I started to serve really well and probably capitalized a little bit on Roger having an off service day,” he added.

Millman will play against Novak Djokovic in his first Grand Slam quarter-final on Wednesday.
