India's Para-badminton champion Raj Kumar on Wednesday was finally awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award by Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, 2 years after the selection committee denied him for the same award.

It is learnt that Sports Secretary Rahul Prasad Bhatnagar was also present on the special occasion.

According to reports in media two years ago, the Punjab born player Raj Kumar was denied the Arjuna award by the sports ministry after the selection committee ignored his credentials. He then moved to the Delhi High Court against the government’s move. Kumar presented his contention that he had a score of 72.5 out of 80 while the award was given to a para-athlete who had scored 50 out of 80.
