Indian Cricketing legends, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble, have signed up for the proposed T20 league promoted by stalwarts Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne, according to reports.
Recently retired former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene has also been approached to join this all-star league.
"Yes, Mahela has been approached to play in the league promoted by Tendulkar and Warne. At this point I can only confirm about the offer being made, but a few details still needs to be worked out," a source close to Mahela told PTI.
"At this point of time, Mahela after his retirement from all forms of international cricket, is only freelancing in the private T20 leagues across the globe. His next assignment is Caribbean Premier League. After that, he is relatively free and there is no reason why Mahela won't be signing on dotted lines," said an official, who is following the development.
Apart from the above-mentioned names, 28 retired cricketers will be approached for this T20 league, which will be played across major cities in the United States of America (USA) like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. A total of eight matches will be played over a period of two years and the first set of these matches are being reportedly scheduled for late August or early September this year.
"At this point the ICC has received no communication on the proposed T20 league. There is a process in place with regard to events such as this and the ICC will deal with it once it is approached," said an ICC spokesman. As these matches will have no official status, the organisers might still have to seek for ICC's approval.
Former cricketers including Glenn McGrath, Jaques Kallis, Adam Gilchrist, Shahid Afridi, Brian Lara, Matthew Hayden, Allan Donald and Ricky Ponting are also likely to sign up for this venture.
