Leroy Sane Misses Out, Neuer Makes It To Germany's World Cup Squad

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane who won the PFA young player of the year is not part of the 23 member World Cup squad, the German team confirmed on their Twitter Account. Manuel Neuer made to the squad despite playing just one official game, a friendly match against Austria.

Sane, who joined the English champions in 2016, has proved him as an asset for the team and has performed well, helping the City win their Premier League title. He scored 14 goals and assisted 19 in all competition as City won the league with five games left. Sane had played in the six out of seven games including the recent games against Austria on Saturday in which they faced 2-1 loss.

Football fans were caught surprised at his exclusion from the squad.

“It was a tough decision between him and Julian Brandt which went in favour of Brandt,” the coach said.


Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer, Kevin Trapp, Marc-Andre ter stegen.

Defenders:  Jerome Boateng, Matthias Ginter, Jonas Hector, Mats Hummels, Joshua Kimmich ,Marvin Plattenhardt, Antonio Rudiger, Niklas Sule.

Midfeilders: Julian Brandt, Julian Draxler, Leon Goretzka, Ilkay Gundogan, Sami Khedira, Toni Kroos, Thomas Mueller, Marco Rues, Sebastian Rudy Mesut Ozil.  

Strikers: Mario Gomez, Thomas Muller, Marco Reus, Timo Werner

The Squad was announced by Leow at the end of the training camp at the Italian Alps. The tournament will start on 14 June before which the German players will face Saudi Arabia in Leverkusen on Friday.
