Manchester City thrashed Arsenal 3-0 to win the Carabao League Cup in the Wembley Stadium on Sunday. This is City boss Pep Guardiola’s first trophy since becoming their manager.

In a disappointing and listless performance by the London side, City displayed total dominance in a comprehensive one-sided win. They also lead the Premier League table with 13 points with a game in hand.

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero started the proceedings when he latched onto a ball from his goalkeeper Claudio Bravo in the 18th minute. He cleverly stood behind Mustafi and held his ground so that the defender misses it over his head. Aguero ran at Arsenal defence and subtly chipped the ball over David Ospina to take a deserved lead in the final.

From there on, it was all City. Even though the first half finished with a 1-0 scoreline, in the second City captain Vincent Kompany doubled their lead by scoring from a well-worked corner in the 57th minute. David Silva added another in the 65th minute to after a brilliant spin to get past the defender to dispatch the ball in the bottom corner.

After a trophy-less first season in charge of City, Guardiola’s career major trophy haul as a manager stands at 19, having won 11 with Barcelona and seven at Bayern Munich.
