The defending champions Germany have been eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2018 after facing a humiliating 2-0 defeat against the Korea Republic. Sweden and Mexico qualified for the round of 16.

The Korean Republic victory resulted in Germany's elimination for the first time in the first hurdle of the tournament since 1938.

The German team made certain changes in the squad. Thomas Muller didn't get a place in Germany's line-up for the first time in a World Cup game since their semi-final defeat to Spain in 2010, and midfielder Leon Goretzka took his place.

Korea who had nothing to lose gave their best performance which paid them in the stoppage time when Kim struck a goal in close range which confirmed Germany's elimination from the tournament. The Korea Republic was not done yet, Son raced clear of the German defence and rolled the ball into an empty net in the last minutes.
