Kidambi Srikanth Knocked Out Of China Open After Losing To Kento Momota

Indian star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth after a hard-fought battle was knocked out of the China Open 2018 by Japanese Kento Momota on Friday.

Reigning world champion Kento Momota held his nerves to blow away the Indian seventh seed with a scoreline of 21-9, 21-11 in a match that lasted for just 28 minutes. Srikanth had struggled against Thailand's Suppanyu Avihingsanon in the previous round but managed to register a win by 21-12, 15-21, 24-22 to reach the quarters.

The Japanese shuttler Momota has registered his third win against Kidambi this year. Before this match comparing the head-to-head clashes was favoured completely in the Japanese player’s favour, with the Indian losing 7 of their 10 matches.

In the 1st game Srikanth was trailing by just one point at a score of 4-5 but that was the last momentum that Srikanth showed in the opening game as Momota went on gain 5 consecutive points to take a 10-5 lead, and soon after that collected eight back-to-back points to take complete control at a scoreline of 11-6.

The second game too started in similar fashion as both the players battling it out for the early lead. And like the opening game, it was the world champion, who blew away Srikanth by winning 9 straight points.

There was no way back for Srikanth as the second seed from Japan managed to hold on to his big lead and march into the final.

Further Momota, the third seed, will now lock horns on Chinese second seed Shi Yuqi in the semifinals.
