Kidambi Srikanth Becomes World No 1 Badminton Player!

Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has made the nation proud, becoming the World No.1 men’s badminton player in the world on Thursday. He has replaced Denmark’s  Viktor Axelsen in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.

The 25-year-old shuttler’s prolific form in 2017, during which he won a record four Super Series titles, has helped him reach 76895 rating points, the best ever by an Indian male badminton player. 

He was also a member of the Indian team that won the mixed team Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast and is currently in pursuit of another Gold medal in men’s singles.

This is the first time since 1983 when Prakash Padukone was the highest ranked male, that an Indian has ascended his way to the top.

He joins this elite group with Saina Nehwal who was ranked highest in 2015.
