Kerala Bags Home The Santosh Trophy, Beats West Bengal By 4-2 Goals

Kerala won the 72nd edition of Santosh Trophy football finals on Sunday by beating West Bengal on penalties with a scoreline of 4-2 after a 2-2 stalemate at the end of the extra time. This is the 6th title win for the state.

Both sides made the solitary change from their semi-final victories. Kerala got in Afdal VK, the hero that got them to the final for Sajith Poulose to lead the line. Krishna Biswas made way for Sanchayan Samadder in midfield for Bengal.

The teams managed to stretch the match until penalty shootouts. West Bengal put up a valiant fight but finally, Kerala clinched the Santosh Trophy at the Vivekananda Yubabharati Krirangan stadium, Kolkata.

Twitter was flooded with congratulatory messages. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated the victors as well as the losing side.
