Chennaiyin FC's 1-0 win over FC Goa on Thursday pulls them closer to securing a spot in the playoffs of Indian Super League.  Even if it came via an own-goal by defender Narayan Das. They now have 27 points from 15 games.

Knowing that a win over FC Goa will further cement their case for a playoff spot, Chennaiyin FC started the first half strongly creating chances. The attacking duo of Inigo Calderon and Raphael Augusto troubled the rival defence with incessant waves of attacks.

Goa settled into the game eventually and balanced the game out but their attempts were also thwarted by the tight defence Chennaiyin FC owns.

Chennaiyin FC made two changes from their last drawn match against Delhi Dynamos, bringing in Bikramjot Singh and Sereno Henrique in place of Keenan and Gavilan.

FC Goa, on the other hand, made one change bringing in Brandan Fernandes in place of Manvir Singh.

After a goalless first-half, Chennaiyin FC started the second-half brightly and in the 52nd minute, the deadlock was broken. Goan defenders failed to clear a simple loose ball inside the box which allowed Francisco to pick out Gregory Nelson at the edge.

His shot was parried away by the keeper but only as far as Jeje Lalpekhlua who tried to cross the ball but it hit Narayan Das and went it. Being a goal down, Goa responded strongly by making two substitutions to get back in the game.

Shots off the bar, keeper making saves after saves, Chennaiyin FC's lead hanged by a thread but their resistance prevailed, and saw out the match with a goal to the good.
