ISL: Chennaiyin FC Usurps FC Goa To Set Up Clash With Bengaluru FC In The Final

Chennaiyin FC displayed a tactical masterclass as they defeated FC Goa in the second leg of the second semi-final of Indian Super League on Tuesday. They won by 3-0 with the final aggregate being 4-1. They will face Bengaluru FC on March 17.

The first-leg ended 1-1 with Goa conceding an away goal. It was pretty much clear going into the second-leg that Goa needed an early goal to put pressure on Chennai. Winger Mandar Rao Dessai got the first chance in the game as early as 11th minute but his low shot was saved by Chennai goalkeeper Karanjit Singh.

But, things changed in the 26th minute, when a Gregor Nelson cross was met by Jeje, who ended his barren spell by heading the ball home to equal the scoreline.

Being stunned by this goal, FC Goa was unable to organize and get their wits to themselves back as Chennai compiled their misery by taking the lead in the game. It was Nelson yet again, being a thorn in the Goan side who troubled the defence. His cross was met by Dhanpal who leapt the highest to put the ball in the back of the net.

At half-time, it was evident that FC Goa needed goals to relinquish their dreams of making into the finals. In the second half, they were expected to go all out but it was the time when Chennai's defence was in its elements. Goa kept putting pressure with a barrage of attacks, but Chennai's rock-solid defence never fluttered. Head coach John Gregory takes immense pride is setting up his team defensively and his work was bearing fruits in the second-half.

Unfortunately, for the Virat Kohli-owned side, it was again Jeje with his serial predatorial self as he raced past defenders and put the tie to bed by scoring his second and team’s third in the 89th minute.
