The entire nation was left disappointed over Team India's shameful loss in the opening test against South Africa and was expecting some desirable changes in the playing XI. Despite the selectors making few changes in the team, the final result was not what many expected.

While Ajinkya Rahane has still not been added to the team, despite having the best average outside the subcontinent among all India batsmen, Parthiv Patel replaced Wriddhiman Saha, who has a hamstring niggle, for the second test.

Among the most criticised batsmen were Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan due to their highly disappointing performance in the opening test, later of whom was replaced by KL Rahul but Sharma stays put in the team. The most shocking replacement involved the most appreciated player of the Indian squad.

The medium-pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar who took the most wickets in the first match against South Africa was replaced by India's most experienced bowler Ishant Sharma. While Ishant's addition was appreciated, the decision to drop Bhuvi after his great first innings outing of 4/87 in Newlands came as an unexpected move to the cricket lovers.

South Africa made only a little in their team by replacing injured  Dale Steyn by the local pace sensation Lungi Ngidi, who will make his international debut within the series. In the second test, South Africa elected to bat after winning the toss at the Centurion SuperSport Park on Saturday.
