Intercontinental Cup: Sunil Chetri Scored Hat-Trick As India Thrash Chinese Taipei In The Opener

India outplayed Chinese Taipei in the first match of Intercontinental Cup which was played at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai on Friday. Captain Sunil Chhetri led from the front with a hat-trick.

Chetri, India’s all-time highest scorer showed his class once again, scoring in the 14th, 34th and 62nd minute of the opener.

The Indian skipper’s teammate at the Bengaluru FC, Udanta Singh joined the party by scoring a goal in the 48th minute of the game.

India started on the offensive straight away and was rewarded for their attacking when Jeje Lalpekhlua forwarded the ball to the skipper to slot the ball past the goalkeeper of Chinese Taipei.

There was a brief halt in the proceedings owing to an injury of Subhashish Bose, following which the visiting side looked to get into the box a create their real chance.  

While Pronay Haldar completed the rout of Chinese Taipei by finding the back of the net with his 78th minute long range from the edge of the box.

The team enjoyed 67 percent possession that their goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu remained a spectator for the major part of the game.

Chetri thanked his colleagues, saying his main target is 2019 Asian Cup.
