Indian women’s cricket team on Monday comfortably registered a 7-wicket win in the second ODI against England at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai.

The women in blue not only excelled in one department but were better than England in all departments which eventually resulted in a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. India also pocketed two points to solidify their second place in the ICC ODI Championship.

Chasing a modest total of  162 runs, India looked slow in patches but hold on their nerves to be careful in their approach. India's star batswoman Smriti Mandhana continued her strong form in the 50-over format to score 63 and captain Mithali Raj remained unbeaten on 47. Earlier, Punam Raut gave Mandhana good support for a 73 run stand for the second wicket.

Earlier, solid batting from Natalie Sciver took England to 161 instead of the expected 130 at one stage. With wickets falling quickly in the middle, India were in command but failed to close the inning out. Sciver, on 85, was the last wicket to fall as both India seamers, Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey, took four wickets each.

England player Sciver and Winfield forged a partnership in the middle and then Sciver did so alongside Hartley for the last wicket. The 42 run stand took England further along but India are likely to be happy with a 162 run total.
