Indian Batsman Prithvi Shaw on Thursday slammed opponent West Indies with a century in his debut test. Shaw became the youngest player to score a century in the debut test match.

Shaw, whose 18 years 329 days old became the second youngest Indian ever to score a Test century, after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin, at 17 years and 107 days scored his maiden Test century in 1990 vs England in Manchester, with a fine unbeaten knock of 119.

Along the way, Shaw had also become the youngest Indian to score a half-century on Test debut. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Parthiv Patel were younger than Shaw when they got their maiden Test half-centuries, but not on debut.

The 18-year-old, who opened the innings for India, reached the landmark in the 33rd over off Keemo Paul's bowling. Shaw took 99 balls to slam his maiden Test century.

He's also the youngest Indian to score fifty-plus runs on Test debut for India. Shaw surpassed the record set by Abbas Ali Baig — who had scored a fifty against England in 1959 when he was 20 years and 126 days old.

The last Indian to score a hundred on Test debut was Rohit Sharma, who also reached his milestone against the Windies in November 2013.

Along with Shaw, Kuldeep Yadav was also brought back to the side as India went into the match with a three-man spin attack with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Commentator and Former Cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar applauding the young prodigy tweeted, “Congratulations to Prithvi Shaw for a hundred on debut. Love the fact that he can score at a strike rate of 100 just batting instinctively without looking to over attack or by taking risks.”

Cricketer Mohammad Kaif tweeted, “Is ladke mein kuch toh bahut khaas hai. Looked that he belongs here from the very first ball he faced. A sign of things to come, well played Prithvi Shaw.”

Virendra Sehwag tweeted, “It’s been the Shaw show. Congratulations Prithvi Shaw, abhi toh bas shuruaat hai , ladke mein bahut dum hai.”
